Did you know that Ancient Greek is the foundation of many English words? In fact, roughly 60% of all English words and 90% of technical and scientific terms are derived from ancient Greek and Latin. Words that contain ‘bio-’, ‘photo-’, and ‘auto-’  are just a few of many words that have a Greek origin. Not only words from the Greek Language are seen in English but also expressions derived from Greek mythology. For example, the ‘Achilles heel’ which means weakness or a vulnerable point is taken from Homer's epic poem, The Iliad. Or even ‘If looks could kill’ expression from the famous character Medusa.

Simple. Schools focus on teaching English by memorization, but it is actually a very ineffective method of learning. Studies show that it is easier to recall memory associated with an experience, and the more unique the experience the easier it is to recall.

We made our Ancient Greece course to help kids learn not only about the English language but also to learn how the Greeks influenced our modern world today in a fun and interesting way. The Greeks impacted everything from government, philosophy, science, mathematics, art, literature, and even sports. Therefore, kids will be exploring Ancient Greek society, and engage in various interactive activities. These activities were designed to help the kids improve and expand their English skills, enhance their creativity, and build confidence in a fun focus group setup.
