At Lighthouse Camps, we don't just teach kids. Kids are very vulnerable at this stage of their lives and thus requires constant encouragement in order for them to blossom into a confident individual. Among all the kids that have attended our summer camps so far, one in particular caught our attention. For confidential purposes, we shall call him Q. When Q first arrived at camp, he was shy and unwilling to interact with anyone. When we announced that every kid was going to have an obligatory presentation on the last day of camp, Q's terrified expression almost prompted us to cancel his presentation. We were determined, however, to make this the best camp he has ever attended and to make sure he comes out of his shell, even by a little bit, by the end of camp. During the first few classes, Q refused to respond to our instructors and kept to mostly to himself. But as time went on, we began to see gradual improvement. Q seemed to have a certain charm tho, because the other little campers loved to play with him and refused to leave him alone. Even though Q was quiet, he constantly wore a big smile on his face. Q eventually opened up to us and became much more responsive to our staff. It was then that we realized that Q was actually a very analytical and clever kid. He remembered detailed things that our instructors taught on previous days that are easily forgotten. When presentations rolled around, Q demonstrated his project with ease, explaining this and that with a chirpy voice. Q had really grown as a person, far exceeding our expectations in terms of confidence. When it came time to leave, Q looked about ready to burst into tears! We almost laughed out loud seeing how adorable he was. His father comforted him, assuring him that him that this camp would not be his last. Q is quite an incredible kid and we are sure that he will be capable of unbelievable accomplishments in the future!
