According to an article in The Guardian, children who frequently read books at age 10 and read more than once per week at age 16 had higher test results than those who read less. Reading for pleasure was linked to higher academic achievement in vocabulary, spelling and even mathematics. Lighthouse Literature Camp guides campers to develop efficient and effective reading habits in a systematic way, to well prepare them for middle school, high schools, and further studies. This camp will focus on three parts to enhance reading: vocabulary, class discussions, and comprehension ability.

- Vocabulary: how to look up a dictionary, vocab study method (fill the blank, match up best work, synonyms, sentence building..)
- Comprehension: Before Reading, Author Research, Character analysis, Plot inference, Story Timeline, Conflict, Problem Solving, Cause and Effect, Facts and Opinions, Persuasive Writing, Quotations, Comparison, Making Connections, setting theme
- Summarizing skills: making reading log
- Reading comprehension questions by chapter and end of the book.
- Extension activities: Plot Diagram, Theme Anchor Chart, Research Sheet about certain content in the novel, such as events, terminology, and so on.
- Final presentation about the book overall.
