Aim of the class:
This course is an introductory science course that is meant to give your child an overview of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We will be using Exploring Science 7, a textbook used by many British schools. The course will move at a fast pace as it is meant to cover a full academic year of science over the course of 32 two-hour Saturday courses.
Why this course?
This course was co-developed by our founder Mark Hsu, who obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Stanford University, and Dr. Ivon Jou, our Academic Director, who holds a Bachelor of Medicine from Taipei Medical University. They both observed that intelligent students often give up pursuing advanced studies in the sciences not because they are incapable of mastering the subjects but because they grew frustrated with the subjects too early, often due to a teacher who didn’t spend the time to understand a complex idea. They understand that a fundamental understanding of the basic sciences are essential for future success in STEM fields. Our course aims to prepare students for higher level science classes, keep them engaged and inspired in the basic sciences and most importantly instill confidence in our students in the sciences.
Although targeted at 5th or 6th graders, the content will be similar to the content delivered in a 8th or 9th grade science class under the US system.

基礎科學營隊課程是由萊特豪斯創辦人Mark Hsu (史丹佛大學生物學學士)，與課程負責人Ivon Jou (台北醫學大學醫學系畢) 共同研發。他們觀察到國內外很多孩子放棄進階的理科項目，不是因為他們不夠聰明或沒有能力學習，而是因為自幼對理科項目學習累積的挫折導致。而這個現象，多半都是因為在基礎課程授課的老師快速帶過，沒有充分花時間讓孩子了解理科項目複雜且龐大的基礎概念。札實的基礎，是通往STEM理科學習成功的重要關鍵。
萊特豪斯的課程內容主要是讓孩子們能全面了解生物、化學和物理學；並且透過實驗，讓孩子們在親手實作的參與中，提高學習的印象和效果，啟發孩子對科學的興趣，藉此增強求知慾望，為孩子接下來的STEM課程領域，做好超前部署。教材使用的是 Exploring Science 7，是現今許多英國學校所使用的一本入門版的科學探索課程教材；課程程度與美國教育系統下的8-9年級理科程度雷同。

- Full Term Fee: NTD 2,000 per class (2 hours)
- 10 classes Fee: NTD 2,200 per class (2 hours)
- Pay as you go NTD 2,500 per class (2 hours)
- Book fee: NTD 1,500
- Extra lab/experiments fee (Depending on the topics on the day; we will notify you in advance, or contact us for details. )
