When our Ancient Greece course began, our team was determined to make it the best experience for kids. We wanted to show our students that history and literature can actually be many times more exciting than what their experiences at boring school lectures had led them to believe. Our summer camp was designed to be vastly different from and far more interesting than your typical academic camp. We create an engaging atmosphere by incorporating crafts and hands-on projects that make kids eager to learn more. Our instructor kicked things off by giving them an interactive notebook that could use to document exciting facts they discover in class. The kids would gaze concentratedly upon their notebooks, arduously filling page after page with fun and important facts. The interactive notebook not only improved memory but also brought out the kids’ creative side. Every page showcased the kids’ artistic impression of what they learned. The notebook gave our team an insight on the kids’ minds and helped us realize that they were exceedingly creative and introspective. One kid in particular, who we shall call Ben for confidential purposes, came in initially dreading the boredom he thought he was going to be subjected to in our course. However, over the course of the day, Ben grew increasingly fond of the course because of his notebook. He loved being able to draw his own impression of the Greece timeline. Ben was so inspired by the class that he came in the following day chattering excitedly about Ancient Greece. By then our team was nearly in tears from the endearing moment. Our work put into designing a more unique course all came to this moment. There truly is no better feeling than seeing our little campers smiling blissfully after class!
